Atal Pension Yojana (APY)
Atal Pension Yojana is a government-backed pension scheme in India, primarily targeted at workers in the unorganized sector. Administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), it provides a guaranteed retirement income.
Eligibility & Enrollment Rules
The scheme focuses on protecting workers in the unorganized sector against post-retirement financial risks. Exclusions apply to tax-paying citizens.
Who can join
- Any Indian citizen aged between 18 and 40 years.
- Must have an active savings bank account linked to a mobile number.
Exclusion Criteria
- •Must not be a beneficiary of any statutory social security schemes (e.g. EPF, NPS).
- •Must not be an active Income Tax payer (under rules modified in October 2022).

Used for primary identity authentication and linking to the pension account.
Active Bank Passbook
Required to configure monthly/quarterly auto-debit contributions. Must show valid IFSC code.
Mobile Number
To receive SMS transaction alerts, contribution updates, and e-PRAN details.
Nominee Information
Mandatory details including nominee Aadhaar and relationship proof to ensure payout transfers in case of demise.
